DIY Detox Charcoal Clay Mask

If you are anything like me, you love a good DIY mask. Oftentimes, you can create the best mask, using ingredients in your home that you already have. Even if you don't have the ingredients, buying them is usually cheaper than purchasing a mask. Don't get me wrong, I do purchase masks from the store, I also enjoy making my own creations. Today, I decided to make one of my favorite DIY Detox Mask using Aztec Indian Healing Clay and Activated Charcoal.

Aztec Indian Healing Clay

As per the Aztec Indian Healing clay website , the Aztec Indian Healing Clay is a bentonite clay from Death Valley, California, where it is sun-dried for up to six months in temperatures that sometimes reach 134 degrees.

Bentonite Clay is a powerful clay extracted from volcanic ash. Bentonite clay has several uses, but for purposes of this post, I'll discuss skincare benefits. It can be used to draw out impurities in your skin, tighten skin, heal acne scars, help with hyperpigmentation, help rid acne, and remove blackheads.

For this specific type of Bentonite Clay, you can purchase at most vitamin shops or even online. It generally costs around $8.

Activated Charcoal

Just like the Aztec Indian Healing Clay, Activated Charcoal has multiple uses. Activated Charcoal can be used to detoxify your skin by pulling dirt from your pores, removing excess oil, gently exfoliating, helping acne, and providing a deep clean for your skin.

Activated Charcoal can also be purchased at most Vitamin Shops. This particular brand was purchased at Vitacost (click link), for $4.46.

How to create this DETOX Mask:

  • 2 Tsps of Indian Healing Clay
  • 1 Capsule of Activated Charcoal
  • Water

Mix Clay and Activated Charcoal in a glassware, add water (tsp by tsp) while stirring, until a creamy paste is created. Be sure not to use a metal spoon or bowl, as it will lessen the benefits provided by the Clay. Use clean fingers or brush to apply. Leave on for 5-10 minutes or until dry. Rinse off, pat dry, and add your favorite moisturizer.

Want a more intensive mask?

Add a few drops of Tea Tree Oil or a little Apple Cider Vinegar. Please skin test on a small area, as the combo may be too strong for certain skin types.

Happy Masking!
